A great day out today enjoying snowy conditions and clear skies. Not too much wind but it was bloody freezing on top of Blencathra. Running with Dean and Jonathan today.
We set off from Spooneygreen Lane but branched off after the initial steep climb through the woods to take the more direct route up to Latrigg summit. I tried to find one of the lower paths down from Latrigg but we ended up going on the usual track. There were some corniced banks on the way down and we enjoyed jumping off them. I know that cornices can be dangerous but these were low down and we sent Jonathan off first to test them.
The climb up Blease Fell was a slog and we put microspikes on for the run along the tops. We were thinking of a run over to Mungrisdale Common but decided it would be pretty deep in snow in that direction so we came down Scales Fell. After a fun descent (see the video) we plodded back along the footpath at the base of Blencathra, back to the Blencathra Centre before our usual trail route back to Keswick.
