Gowbarrow Fell

top of Gowbarrow Fell

Smog alert!  The UK is suffering under an oppressive smog cloud.  Well, it's a bit hazy out.  The last time we ran around Gowbarrow Fell, it was a lovely sunny evening.  On this run it was smoggy and hazy.  This is a great little run.  Park at the side of the road in the disused quarry, go through the gate and follow the track to the beck.  Cross the bridge, hang a left, climbing gradually until you get to the wall before the woods.  Here turn right and climb up steeply to the summit.  From the summit you can pick up the continued track which goes all the way around the fell.  It's a brilliant track, all runnable with lots of singletrack sections.  Views over Ullswater are usually beautiful.

if you stay on the track you eventually make your way to the famous Aira Force waterfalls.  There has been a big landslide recently, taking out a significant portion of the steps that went up to the left of this picture.
